Zoom Breakout Room

Jess and Josh first met in a Zoom breakout room for a math class at Michigan State, when MSU's classes were temporarily online due to Covid.

They met each other in person ~6 weeks later.

Friendship

MSU

Jess and Josh were friends together at Michigan State for a year, and spent a lot of time together at Jess' apartment.

The first time Josh was there, he accidentally broke Jess' measuring cup on the very first scoop.

First date

Hopcat

Jess and Josh's first date was at Hopcat in East Lansing.

MSU Graduation

Breslin Center

We graduated together at the Beslin Center with matching degrees, each earning a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics (Jess with a minor in Chemistry and Josh in Physics and Computer Science).

Student Teaching Year

Clifford Smart Middle School & Holt High School

Jess and Josh were assigned student teaching placements in different areas.

Josh student taught at Holt High School in East Lansing while Jess student taught at Clifford H. Smart Middle School in Walled lake, about an hour away.

Josh drove to see Jess each weekend (often from Thursday evening until Monday morning), staying with her & her family regularly.

First Apartment

Farmington Hills, MI

After student teaching, Jess and Josh got an apartment together in Farmington Hills. They each found full-time teaching jobs nearby. Jess stayed at Clifford Smart and Josh found a job at South Lyon East.

Engagement

Gatlinburg, TN

Josh proposed to Jess during a trip to Gatlinburg, Tenessee in the summer of 2025.

The proposal was a surprise to Jess, who said yes!
